"The tattoos aren't drawn in pencil, Mark. They're drawn in ink. and no, you can't see them." |
It could have been Emma Watson, it could have been Kristen Stewart, it could have been Lea Seydoux (I know, right? who?), it could have been... hell, Natalie Portman. Maybe Mila Kunis! It wasn't ever going to be Noomi Rapace again, unfortunately. Wisely, though, she declined to reprise the role she originated.
But, the point is, it's Rooney Mara. And, if you don't know who she is, you've seen her in The Social Network. She's the one who breaks Mark Zuckerberg's "heart". She's 25, and has only been acting for the last six years. But, thanks mostly to David Fincher (who wisely cast her in The Social Network, and again in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), her career has taken off incredibly well. And with the impending release of this film, her career is only going to continue on its skyrocketing path. Good for her. She deserves it. She's a thoughtful actress. And, most importantly, she's a generous actress.
Photos of her transformation for the role of Lisbeth Salander - a punk rock, bisexual, computer hacker in Steig Larsson's Millenium trilogy The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - have hit the internet, and there's been nothing but... pause. A sort of "wow" pause. Almost like "that's her?!"
Take a look -
It's... impressive. And probably our first legitimate nominee for Costume Design and Make-up in 2011. I'll be championing this film's release for a while, and encouraging everyone I know to see the original.
David Fincher directs, Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, and Stellan Skarsgaard star.
For comparison, here is a photo of the astonishing Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth -
Eat your heart out, Green Hornet. |
I'm all sorts of excited. Leave your comments below and tell me what you think about Mara's new look!
